About Me

Hi, I'm Florian — a computer science student, open-source maintainer of the openHAB project, and freelance software developer from Karlsruhe, Germany. In my free time, I enjoy extending my homelab and smart home setup, taking photos and playing the euphonium in several local orchestras.

My journey into software development began in 2018, at the age of 13, when I set up openHAB on a Raspberry Pi to manage our KNX smart home. After these first steps into the world of software, I quickly added more services and devices to our home, with the goal of building a truly smart home that runs locally in our own private cloud.

Fast-forward to today: I am studying computer science at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) to turn my hobby into my profession. Besides that, I have been an open-source maintainer of the openHAB project since 2022 and an assessor on the board of the openHAB Foundation e.V. since 2025.
Since 2025, I have been working as a freelance software developer, specializing in B2B software development for smart homes and building automation.
